CURRENT EXHIBITION

Kiewa Valley Cattlemen and Women and their High Plains Huts:

In this display we highlight five huts and the Valley families who built them and used them. As running cattle on the High Plains is now forbidden the huts remain as evidence of a rich mountain history.

The Dairy Industry in the Kiewa Valley:

The dairy industry has been an important Kiewa Valley farming pursuit for over a century. The obvious changes over the years have been the size of the farms, the number of farms, and the numbers of cows milked now and then. We have taken a little walk back into a much less technologically-driven time in the history of the dairy industry in this valley.

The Tobacco Families of the Kiewa Valley 1930-2000:

We are very pleased to (at last) bring the Tobacco Story home to the Kiewa Valley. This great collection of artefacts, photos and information was compiled and researched by Aurora Parmesan for the Mount Beauty Music Festival in 2000. Due to no suitable place to display the collection being available after the festival, the collection was displayed in the old Tobacco Sheds in Bright. The KVHS Inc is delighted to receive this collection as a gift from the Music Festival and Aurora, and we are very pleased to have it back. The story is greatly enriched by the vibrant social history created by the characters the industry attracted. Come and see if you recognise anyone?
